The history of our home is unique. The original building was once a stately home on a dairy farm on the outskirts of Crawfordsville. The Ben Hur Life Association in Crawfordsville was the forerunner of the Ben Hur Home. The Association had the responsibility of caring for its beneficiaries under a life care contract. Difficulties associated with the administration of the life care contracts compelled the Ben Hur Life Association to approach Martha Williams, a life-long resident of Crawfordsville, with an offer to take over the operation of the organization. In 1956, Martha Williams commenced operation of Ben Hur Home, which was then licensed for nine beds. Following the death of Mrs. Williams in 1970, the business operations were assumed by her daughter, Esther Houston. Ben Hur Home has been expanded several times, arriving at a final complement of one hundred thirty two beds. Our facility is now owned by Esther's son, Daniel, who has been actively involved in the home's management and operation for the past twenty seven years.
